AJ and Coleman begin the “2 Chaps Pod, episode 1” by introducing themselves and discussing the intent of the podcast.
Highlights of the Episode:
Competencies:
- Nurture the Living – One of the goals of the podcast is to encourage nurturing your family with God’s Word. As husbands, fathers, and men, God has given us the wonderful responsibility of delivering God’s truth to our families to strengthen, guide, protect, and nourish them in this life’s journey. Even for unmarried men, God has called you to nurture those in His Household, the Church. Seek opportunities to share God’s Word and pray with your household.
- Care for the Wounded – Sin has terrible effects on Creation. We each suffer with our own sinful natures; we experience the sinfulness of the world around us. When we recognize those wounds inflicted by sin, we as men have the responsibility to care for those wounded (including ourselves!). That care comes from the promises of God in Jesus Christ: the forgiveness of sin, life, and salvation from death and hell. Share those promises of Jesus one to another- hear those promises spoken to you from other Christians.
- Honor the Fallen – While the Army uses the term “fallen” to indicate those who have died, AJ and Coleman’s take on this is to honor those who have gone before us – to continue the legacy of the faithful Saints. That begins with honoring Jesus Christ above all. Honoring Jesus is to reflect on His life, death, and resurrection; His teachings; and calling upon Him as our Lord. Honoring those Saints who have gone before us is to learn from their courage and witness to Christ.
Coleman’s Word of the Day
Encouragement – 1 Thessalonians 5:11 -“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” As men, husbands, and fathers, God has blessed us with a sacred vocation to carry out on behalf of our neighbors (spouse, family, Church, and community). We need encouragement in this vocation against the discouragement of the world.

Hope – Romans 5:5 – “…hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Being a father and a husband is tough. We want this to be a place where we can find hope amidst those tough circumstances.
